Crawl space dehumidifier with pump: what specs actually matter

A crawlspace dehumidifier is not a jobsite LGR with the wheels taken off. It sits in a low, dirty, sometimes cold space for months, pumping condensate to a place you will not visit every day. The spec sheet lines that matter are form factor, pint rating at a stated condition, pump lift versus hose length, defrost/operating range, and how you will control a machine you cannot see from the living room.

This uses the Waykar CPG130A ENERGY STAR 130-pint as the worked example, contrasted with the upright Waykar 180-pint PDGT701BA. Unpublished numbers are omitted.

1. Chassis: if it does not fit, the pint rating is trivia

CPG130A: 22.44 × 13.78 × 14.17 in, 72.75 lb, handles and adjustable feet. That is a horizontal crawl chassis. The 180-pint is 19.69 × 21.26 × 32.68 in, 90.39 lb, with semi-pneumatic wheels. Measure the access hatch before you fall in love with 180 PPD. A machine that cannot enter the crawl is a porch ornament.

2. Pints only count with temperature and RH beside them

Waykar publishes 130 pints/day at 95°F / 90% RH for the CPG130A and 7,500 sq ft coverage. That is a saturation-style rating. An 80°F / 60% RH (AHAM-style) pint number was not on Waykar.com for this model when this was written. A real crawl in heating season is closer to 50–65°F. Expect less water than the 130-pint headline — how much less is exactly the unpublished AHAM gap.

The 180-pint manual is more honest because it prints the ladder: 180 @ 95/90, 90 @ 80/60, 50 @ 65/60. Use that as a reminder, not as CPG130A data. See AHAM vs saturation.

Do not convert 7,500 sq ft into a guarantee. Load depends on soil moisture, poly on the floor, vents, and HVAC leaks. IICRC water jobs still belong on a portable high-amp cabinet, not on a 24/7 crawl unit you unbolted for the weekend.

3. Pump lift is not hose length

CPG130A includes a 16.4 ft pump hose and a 6.6 ft gravity hose. The manual’s important line: leakage may occur if vertical lift exceeds 15 ft. Design the discharge to a grade-level window well, a low sink, or a condensate pump already in the mechanical room — not to a roof.

If you have fall to a point below the unit, use gravity and save the pump as backup. If the crawl is the lowest thing on the lot, you need the pump, and you need to stay inside the 15 ft head.

4. Defrost and the cold-crawl problem

Waykar lists auto-defrost on the CPG130A and an operating band of 41–95°F. Below that band the manual says the unit may not run normally. A vented crawl that drops into the 30s in January is outside the spec. Close vents per local practice, insulate, or choose equipment rated for the temperature you actually measure — do not assume “commercial” means “works at 35°F.”

5. Controls you can reach

A crawl you enter twice a year needs a humidistat you can set without a belly crawl every week. Germaphobix and Waykar mention remote / external controller (SB-CPG) and RS485 group control on this family. Confirm which cable and wall controller ship in your box; the Germaphobix “what’s included” line is unit, pump hose, manual. If the wall controller is a separate SKU, buy it.

Set RH to a number that keeps wood dry without over-drying a historic floor. Typical facility targets live around 50% RH, but the right number is the one that matches your moisture-meter readings, not a blog default.

6. ENERGY STAR vs restoration duty

ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2024 is a manufacturer claim on the CPG130A page. That is about 24/7 kWh, not about grain depression on a Class 4 water loss. Restoration still wants wheels, a known AHAM pint, and amps you can put on a spider box. Keep the crawl unit in the crawl.

Compressor coverage: Waykar lists a 5-year compressor warranty on that product page. Read the card; filters and labor are usually different.

7. Airflow: refuse to fake the number

Waykar’s CPG130A bullets say 206 CFM; an on-page spec table and the current Germaphobix PDP have used 250 CFM. Until Waykar reconciles it, quote “see nameplate.” The same honesty belongs on the 180-pint CFM mess. A crawl needs circulation across the poly, but a fake 44 CFM difference is not worth a lawsuit.

Install checklist

• Hatch dimensions vs chassis.
• Discharge height ≤ 15 ft vertical; hose supported so it does not kink.
• Gravity option if a low drain exists.
• Dedicated receptacle; GFCI per code.
• Filter access after install (you will service this).
• Humidistat or wall controller above the hatch.
• Run a HEPA scrubber during any demolition in the crawl; the dehumidifier does not capture spores.

FAQs

Is 130 pints enough for 7,500 sq ft?

It is Waykar’s marketing coverage at 130 PPD @ 95/90. A cool, tight crawl may need less; a wet, vented crawl may need more or a second unit. Measure RH and wood moisture after install.

Pump hose is 16.4 ft — can I lift 16 ft?

The hose is 16.4 ft. The manual warns above 15 ft vertical. Keep the discharge at or below that head.

Why not use the 180-pint commercial unit in a crawl?

Height, weight, and duty. The 180 is a wheeled jobsite cabinet with a published AHAM-condition 90 PPD. Use it on losses. Use CPG130A when the machine lives under the floor.

Does ENERGY STAR change pint output?

It is an efficiency badge, not a pint multiplier. Moisture removal is still the condition on the spec sheet.
