This DNA test detects genetic variants in the AVPR1a gene linked to social behavior. The AVPR1a gene encodes a receptor found on the surface of cells that binds vasopressin. Vasopressin is a hormone that controls water retention and blood pressure. But when localized to the brain binding of vasopressin to its receptor can influence pathways involved in social behavior.
The “female infidelity” genetic variants of AVPR1A are linked to disrupted vasopressin signaling, which may describe their increased propensity to cheat. The genetic variants included in this test do not impact sexual behavior in men. The AVPR1A variant linked to male infidelity is tested in the Male Pair-Bonding Gene AVPR1A test.
